Invocación de Darío

Abstract

Rubén Darío’s work frequently includes invocative gestures of human beings and natural elements. Such gestures, far from being fortuitous, constitute a whole poetic program that, inspired early on by Victor Hugo and later in the Symbolist search for correspondences, became characteristic of the mature poet who dialogues with other contemporary poets. Through his poetry Darío seeks to establish bridges of meaning between the poet and the world, and to affirm his inclusive and participatory vision. The specific form of the dialogue-bridge laid by Darío varies, with the goal of making the poetic word a model and a way of fostering participation and encounter between the human being and the world, while ensuring the world attends to and answers the poet’s call.
