Centellas sagradas : el culto al rayo en los Andes centrales

Abstract

A través de diversos documentos de los siglos XVI y XVII, en este artículo se analiza el culto que rindieron al dios del rayo los llacuaces, antiguos pobladores de la sierra central y norcentral de Perú. El objetivo del trabajo es mostrar cómo las creencias y prácticas rituales de los habitantes de esa región sirvieron como eje rector e incidieron en la jerarquía social de esas comunidades. La investigación arrojó como resultado que los ancestros fueron equiparados con el dios patrono, mientras que sus descendientes justificaron su posición privilegiada dentro de la sociedad a través de ese parentesco.

Based on documents from the xvi and xvii centuries, this article analyzes the way the Llacuaces, ancient settlers of the central and north central mountains of Peru, worshiped the god of lightning. The aim is to show the way beliefs and ritual practices of the inhabitants of that region served as a pattern and influenced the social hierarchy of these communities. The result of the research was that ancestors were compared to the patron god and their descendants justified their privileged position in society as a result of that relationship.
