dc.description.abstract | The globalized, neoliberal Latin American political context demands from these countries the creation of new social relationships that impact communities and their cultural development. By analyzing two contrasting Brazilian cities —São Paulo, cosmopolitan and highly industrialized, and Recife, historically marginalized and with a recent capitalist development—, the author shows how a political culture based on philosophy could, once again in Latin America, embrace workers as the main characters of their own destiny. Despite the expansion of progressive governments in South America, workers have remained in oblivion since political decisions do not seem to include them.
