Repercusiones costarricenses del golpe de Estado de 1973 en Chile

Abstract

El propósito principal de este artículo es analizar las repercusiones que tuvo en Costa Rica el golpe de Estado ocurrido en Chile el 11 de septiembre de 1973. Para cumplir con tal objetivo, se considera la forma en que los medios de comunicación y los políticos e intelectuales respondieron a la noticia del derrocamiento de Salvador Allende. También se estudia el intento realizado por un partido político para explotar electoralmente los acontecimientos chilenos. Por último, se plantea que lo ocurrido en Chile reforzó un discurso costarricense que asociaba nacionalismo, democracia, gobierno civil y reforma social.

The main purpose of this paper is the analysis of the impact on Costa Rica of the coup d’État in Chile on September 11th, 1973. In order to attain this goal, the author reviews how the media, the politicians and the intellectuals responded to the news of Salvador Allende’s overthrow. The attempts of a political party to take advantage at the polls of what happened in Chile are also revised. Finally, the author argues that the Chilean events strengthened a Costa Rican discourse embracing nationalism, democracy, civil government and social reform.
